“Teaching” children to be environmentally responsible.

When children are in school today, not only are they learning the basics such as math, English, reading and sciences, but they are being taught ways to be kinder and gentler to our earth. With so many possible ways to help reduce your carbon footprint and become more “green"or eco-friendly it is simple, everyday changes that have a lasting impact. Recycling, driving more energy efficient vehicles, and reducing the amount of household waste are all good places to start. While these ideas are just a few of the many things that you can do, it is important to realize that you have to start somewhere.

It cannot be left up to parents alone, society as a whole has to be invested in our future. Therefore, part of the responsibility has fallen on our children’s teachers to help teach not only the basics of Math, English, Science and History, but also to school them about what mistakes society has made in how we conduct ourselves and the significant impact it has had on our environment.

The primary teaching jobs of educators has become increasingly difficult over the years with the stress of having to adhere to very strict teaching guidelines at the same time preparing our children for what is a very uncertain future. By providing the simple, yet necessary tools to help them become more conscious of how we take care of our environment, then maybe someday in the near future, recycling and environmental consciousness will be something we all do as naturally as breathing. And then, just maybe our teachers can go back to the business of educating our children.
